Cafe SamovarL.A. Dockyard

Cafe Samovar

The cafe was the first test of the agents' abilities -- particularly at improvisation and teamwork. Here's the scenario:

The cafe is located on Santa Monica Boulevard, across the street from Fuller Park. Those agents working with the FBI investigated the cafe for possible information regarding the shipment and the mob's operations. The operation is, regrettably, turned about when a Triad hit squad shows up to try and stick it to the Russians.

Triad Hit Squad: 5 Triad Street Warriors (see Shadowforce Archer, p.240 for stats). Three are armed with pistols, two are armed with automatic weapons. Tactics: Three (two of which have automatic weapons) will approach the front of the cafe over the patio and begin opening fire through the picture glass. One will slip down the alley on the easy to try and catch anyone coming out the back. The remaining will move to the west side of the patio and cover the street. If three or more hitmen are taken down, the remainder of the squad flees into the gathering crowd, using it as a shield.

The sirens of local police will begin to be heard within 30 seconds of the first shot, but it will take the police three more minutes to arrive on the scene. A map of the cafe can be found here: Cafe Samovar Map

From the cafe, agents can potentially retrieve the cafe's computer (which contains some cooked accounting records). The computer is a desktop with a +1 rating. A successful Computers check (DC 21) and system review (DC 15) will reveal a large cash account with exactly 10% of the total being deposited into the cafe's bank account. The remaining 90% is split between an offshore account (administered by Geimanschaft Bank in Zurich) and an unknown location (there is no current record of the cash having been deposited in any account).

Should agents investigate the Geimanschaft Bank account, a successful Computers check (DC 30) allows access to account ownership information. If an agent's Computers check is successful against DC 35, account balances and recent (past 30 days) transactions are also available. The account is owned by a Taiwanese company with satellite offices in Los Angeles, Honk Kong, and Berlin.
