Occasionally, I work up a truly large project for gaming, independant of any publishing company. While I may make use of their rules, I apply them to something else, or make up new rules to suit old situations. These are, for lack of a better name, my independant projects.
As a note, many of my concepts are drawn from copyrighted sources; in fact, in some cases I lifted text directly from the texts my works are derived from. I am fully aware of this. Currently, I am claiming that this is a legal use of the information under the Fair Use and Credit clause, and I intend to seek absolutely no payment for these works. However, if the owners of the copyrights wish me to take their stuff down, I will gladly do so upon recieving a verifiable request to do so (i.e. E-mail is nice to start things off, but I can't easily tell if you work for Wizards of the Coast or are just some crackpot, so I need more than just an e-mail note.)
In early 1999 (or perhaps late 1998), I decided that Second Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons could use an update. Skills and Powers, I felt, had some good concepts, but they applied them poorly. So, I went nuts and decided to write my own third edition of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Needless to say, my enthusiasm for the project was a bit dampened when Wizards of the Coast announced their Third Edition, so work slacked off. However, I still think that what I have is good enough to share, even though it is incomplete.
When I say incomplete, incidentally, I do mean incomplete. This is mostly unedited, completely unplaytested, and is lacking such things as skills, a combat system, and magic, not to mention the other incidentals that make a game usable. I did have plenty of ideas, of course, but I never got around to writing them down. I hope to update this for 3e when it comes out, though I think it is unlikely to be needed.
How I handled:
-Ability Scores
-Classes in general, and Magic Users, Rogues, and Warriors in particular. And no, I didn't forget a category.
-Races in general, and Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Half-Elves, Halflings, Half-ogres, Half-orcs, and Humans in particular.
