I feel the rage
Teeth clenched, hands balled until they
are streaked with blood and sweat,
my lips and throat united in a primal snarl
Beneath the mask, I feel the rage.
I feel the love
Laughing deeply, my face an expression of joy,
I help my friend cope with
his latest romantic misadventure
Beneath the Mask, I feel the love
I feel the life
Standing on a windswept peak
breathing deeply from amazement as much as exhaustion,
I shout my name across the verdant plain,
Beneath the Mask, I feel the life.
I feel the isolation
Alone in the shadow, my heart in my throat,
wishing to be able to say
what I am able to think, I cry my unshed tears
Beneath the Mask, I feel the isolation.
I feel the hope
Nose pressed to a frosty pane,
I see a shape before the Samhain moon,
wishing and doubting its veracity in a single instant
Beneath the Mask, I feel the hope
Beneath the Mask, I rage
Beneath the Mask, I love
Beneath the Mask, I live
Beneath the Mask, I skulk
Beneath the Mask, I hope
Before the Mask, my unshed tears are never seen.
