A Psychic, a Wolfen, and a Bucketful of Dice

Tonight (20-1-01), I got to roll 100d6 for damage.

No matter what else I take away from tonight, it will be this.

So, we're heading up into the Scarlet Mountains. We've found a throne which seems to have a lot of ancient dwarven spirits trapped inside... however, its only about 6000 years old, making it too young to be our first assumption (a rune item). On its back is a runic inscription which reads "These are the true weapons of our war..." (plus a little bit more that I can't recall right now) It also has a scratched-in inscription with the name "Averlus".

Well, Frost (Pete's character) had done some research, and we learned that Averlus was an ancient Frost dragon no one had seen for centuries, but he lived in the Scarlet Mountains. So, we head up into the mountains, dragging a huge throne, plus a lot of gear for the cold weather.

Our first night in the mountains, we meet a pack of dogs, which have been following us for a long time. I think this has something to do with Pete's background. After I threaten them a bit, they move off into the woods and don't bother us.

The next day, we head up into the pass, one we think was near where Averlus was last sighted. Suddenly, though, we're trapped... a fire elemental comes up behind us, and an ice elemental jumps down off the cliff beside us. We're third level, so things look grim, but I (playing, essentially, an elven priest of light... I'll have to write up her background, at some point), tell them to take care of the ice elemental... I'll play with the fire elemental.

Frost ducks the first swing of the fire elemental, then takes a shot at the Ice Elemental who slams him with a hail of icicles (which he fails to dodge) while our psychic (who happens to be a kick-ass fighter) moves into position. I kick one of our 4, 25 gallon casks of water at the fire elemental, but miss the first one. Sonin, our psychic, takes a swing at the Ice elemental, but fails to beat its AR... he's batted away by a backhand. The fire elemental launches a fireball at me, but it only scorches my armor, giving me time to push the second cask at him. I connect.

We ruled that 1 bucket equals 1 gallon of water. 1 Bucket does 4D6 damage. One 25 gallon cask, then, does 100d6 points of damage. I got to do 417 points of damage with one action. WHOOSH! Scratch one fire elemental.

Meanwhile, Frost and Sonin are dealing with the Ice Elemental. Frost lets it hit him with another volley of frost, but in exchange hits it in the leg... with a natural 20, *4 on the multiplier. The knee shatters, dropping the ice elemental, who is down, but not out. Sonin opts to stay out of it.

Next round, we gain some aid from a dragon, who is quite nice and rakes the elemental on a pass. Frost and Sonin, now badly injured, are crawling into the wagon, but Frost manages to toss off a Shadow Bolt. I quickly douse the Ice Elemental in oil, get hit again by it, then pray as I strike my flint and steel "Oh Gods, if you have ever loved me, you will light this thing now." Out of 35%, I roll a 40 on my tens die... but, I then roll a natural 20 on my to-strike roll. The GM rolls percentile to see if I catch the oil with this desperate move... 14%. The Ice Elemental starts to burn as the dragon prepares for another pass.

The ice elemental takes a shot at me, and I take the hit, slamming two more pints of oil into its already hissing, spitting, and cracking surface. As it tears up my armor, the dragon slams into it, dropping it... but it disappears, just after it falls.

So, now we're faced with a _BIG_ dragon. A dragon named Averlus.
