Using Skills improves them...
What a novel concept!
One of my big gripes about proficiencies in the Core Rules is that they're so hard to increase. If you're using slots, you have a choice of either learning to do something better every 3 levels or so, or learning a new skill. While S&P makes this easier, giving you CP's at every level, not everyone uses it. I think there should be a simple mechanic so you can increase your skills just by doing them, not having to wait for a new level.
Basically, every time you get within 1 point of your proficiency score (meaning if I had a score of 13 in tumbling, whenever I rolled 12, 13, or 14 for using the proficiency), you get a mark next to your proficiency. Once you have a number of marks equal to your proficiency score, it goes up 1 point, and you lose all your marks for that proficiency (meaning once I rolled a 12, 13, or 14 13 times on a tumbling check, my tumbling score would go up to 14 and I would need 14 rolls of 13, 14, or 15 in order to make it raise again).
